To America!

After being in this country for over a month, I have gotten a little sick of eating pasta and realized that it was time for an American meal. So, I have created a new tradition called "American Night."

On American Night, I cook a big meal for my roommates and any friends that want to join. We drink American beer and bust out some country music, classic rock, or anything else that is from America. Some of us dressed for the part with flannel shirts, wife-beaters, and represented the American flag. I considered wearing my USA swimsuit, but then I decided that would be highly inappropriate at the dinner table. On the menu for the night was cheeseburgers, fruit salad, potatoes with Old Bay seasoning, chips, and pasta (because Lindsey is a vegetarian). I got ground beef and all the fruits at the central market, and the ground beef was free because I ran out of money, the guy was closing, and he said I was "cute." Alright, cool!

It was definitely a blast. There were about 8 of us, and there was so much food it felt like Thanksgiving. I cooked the hamburgers with this wicked cool new seasoning I found at the market, and I also made the fruit salad. Nathan (friend of my roommates from Maryland) cooked the potatoes with this seasoning called Old Bay, which is quite popular in Maryland...I was impressed. The hamburgers were definitely a success, and it was so wonderful to eat a greasy American dish. It was for sure a satisfying night, and we all can't wait to do it again!!

This weekend I am heading off to Switzerland with LdM, and I am very excited to visit another country that I haven't been to yet. My midterms are in about 2-3 weeks (where did the time go?!) and I have many people visiting me, which makes me happy beyond belief. I am loving every minute here, and I have come to appreciate/get over the Italian annoyances and Florence is starting to become home to me. Yes, I just said the H word. I've become more thankful of this opportunity and realized how lucky I am to be here. A part of me doesn't ever want to leave! But don't worry, I will be home for Christmas. =)
